Our Founder

Jessica Dewhurst is the founder, CEO and driving force behind the successful international Human Rights NPO, The Justice Desk!

She has worked across the globe, and holds various qualifications from The University of Cape Town, The United Nations, and Cambridge University. She has been named one of Africa’s and South Africa’s most inspiring youth for her work; and has received countless awards from the likes of the South African presidency, Prince Edward, Countess Sophie, The Obama Foundation, and Lead SA.

In 2019, Jess was named one of Glamour Magazine's "Women of the Year" for her activism.

Jessica has travelled extensively working in countries across the globe in the fight for fundamental human rights. She is a trusted and well-known professional in the field of human rights, and is often called on to guide and mentor people and projects across the globe.

She is a passionate and proud South African, who believes in the power of everyday activists, especially among the youth. She has received The Queens Young Leaders award from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, and both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have come to South Africa to see Jess and The Justice Desk in action. While there, The Duchess of Sussex stated that: “Your commitment to doing what is right, gives all of us hope. It is inspiring, it is energizing, and it is extraordinary!”.

Jessica was the first South African to release academic papers on the challenges facing the prevention of human trafficking, as well as has spoken on global platforms against gender-based violence. She continues to inspire people to stand up and challenge the countless unjust policies and social systems that often promote and protect those who violate human rights.

She is also a strong advocate for the youth, believing that youth have the power and ability to make human rights a reality in a country still divided by unimaginable levels of inequality.

The Justice Desk continues to grow in leaps and bounds, increasing its impact and reach each year.  The work of The Justice Desk is impacting lives and dismantling the status quo, in order to work towards creating a more just world. To date the NPO has directly impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and the impact continues to grow exponentially each year.
